Think BBQ sauce is just for grilling? This easy 5-step baked chicken recipe proves that the quintessential summer staple isn’t just a one-trick sauce. With a quick homemade spice rub and liberal basting of our mouthwatering Classic BBQ Sauce, we seal in all the juices so your chicken breasts stay moist and juicy. Best of all, this unsweetened BBQ sauce is made without corn syrup or artificial sweeteners, so you can enjoy all that delicious smoky barbacue flavor without the sugary aftertaste.
The trick to making BBQ chicken in the oven is timing: cook your chicken breasts even a touch too long and they’ll dry up like the desert. To avoid this, use a wired meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the chicken to track the doneness until your BBQ chicken reaches 165°F. Once cooked, let the meat rest for 5 minutes before cutting to retain the juices. You can also add a drizzle or dipping cup of BBQ sauce onto each plate for extra flavor and moisture.
