Deviled eggs are a staple of most brunch spreads. Show up at any spring party or company potluck and you’re likely to spot a platter or five of hard-boiled huevos piled high with a mayo-based creamy filling. Some are classic, like our 4-Ingredient Keto Deviled Eggs, while others go wild with bacon, pickles, or more creative fillings like these spinach and artichoke deviled eggs

But sometimes, you need an alternative to deviled eggs. Maybe your backyard chickens aren’t laying, or you have an egg allergy in the family. Regardless of the reason, you can capture the essence and elegance of this brunch staple without a single boiled egg in sight.

5 Easy Substitutes for Deviled Eggs

Whether the price of a dozen eggs makes your wallet weep, you have a vegan guest, or you’re just a die-hard egg hater (gasp!), these clever alternatives to deviled eggs deliver on flavor and style.

Deviled potatoes

Deviled Potatoes

Baby potatoes make the perfect stand-in for boiled eggs. Simply substitute any petite potato with pale flesh (we like baby golds) for the eggs. Boil the potatoes until slightly soft, then slice them in half horizontally. Add 2 tablespoons of Avocado Oil Mayo or Primal Kitchen Garlic Aioli, 1 tablespoon Organic Dijon Mustard, 1 teaspoon relish, and a dash of salt to a bowl with a bit of mashed potatoes. Mix to combine, then top each potato half with a spoonful and a dash of paprika.

Deviled pickles on a plate

Deviled Pickles

Deviled eggs, but with pickles? Yes, please! Simply top dill pickle chips or halved baby dills with a blend of cream cheese, mayo, potato flakes, and a dash of Primal Kitchen Buffalo Sauce or paprika for an extra kick. We’re not sure which pickle-loving millennial first invented this clever mashup, but we’re here for it. They have a juicy bite and a zesty dill kick that will have everyone reaching for more.
