Our version of this trending social media recipe delivers all the flavor of your favorite Asian takeout food without the added cane sugar or soy. Pair these pork and cabbage dumplings with cauliflower rice, steamed cauliflower, or Chinese broccoli.
Ingredients
- ½ tablespoon Primal Kitchen Organic Avocado Oil
- 1 pound ground pork
- ⅔ cup carrot, grated
- 1/2 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 3 large green onions, chopped
-
3-4 tablespoons Primal Kitchen Teriyaki Sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 1 medium head napa cabbage
- Additional sesame seeds and green onion, for garnish
-
Primal Kitchen Teriyaki Sauce or Thick & Sticky Honey Teriyaki Sauce and Marinade, for dipping
Directions
Make the filling:
Heat the oil in a skillet on your stovetop over medium-high heat. When it is hot, add the ground pork and use a spoon or spatula to break it up so it cooks in the pan.
- Once the meat starts to brown, add the grated carrot, ginger, and garlic powder and stir together. Then add the green onion.
- Add the Teriyaki Sauce and continue stirring occasionally until the meat is fully cooked through and a little crispy. Remove from the heat and stir in the sesame seeds.
Prep the cabbage:
While the pork is cooking, heat a medium pot with water on your stovetop along with a healthy pinch of salt.
- Cut the end off of your napa cabbage and rinse about 15-20 outer leaves.
- Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer. Add half of the cabbage leaves to the pot, making sure they get submerged in the water. Let the cabbage leaves cook and soften in the water for 3-5 minutes, then remove them from the water with tongs or a spatula.
- Repeat with the remaining cabbage leaves. Place the softened leaves on a towel to blot off any extra water.
Assemble the dumplings:
Place a tablespoon of filling into the center of a cabbage leaf and roll it up similar to how you’d roll a burrito, making the cabbage dumpling tight. Repeat with the remaining filling until you’ve used up all of the leaves.
Top the cabbage dumplings with sesame seeds and more sliced onion. Serve with Teriyaki Sauce or Honey Teriyaki for dipping.

Dumplings are one of our favorite comfort foods. Maybe it’s the petite size, the scrumptious filling, or the way they can go from easy appetizer to soup component. But here at Primal Kitchen, we’re always thinking of new ways to tip the balance on our plates toward more protein and veggies and less processed starch. So when these delicious pork and cabbage dumplings went viral, we couldn’t believe our luck.
Our twist on this TikTok trend takes even more care to fit into a lower-carb or clean-eating lifestyle. Ground pork and shredded carrots are combined with our savory-sweet Teriyaki Sauce and fragrant aromatics like ginger and garlic for a hearty filling that gives restaurant vibes minus the soy, cane sugar, or artificial sweeteners. The usual wonton skin wrapper is replaced with lightly boiled cabbage leaves, and our thicker Honey Teriyaki adds a sweet finish. Make these cabbage dumplings for your family and they won’t even miss takeout!
