Homemade baked beans are the kind of cozy side dish that you’d expect to find at a Southern potluck or a country-style BBQ joint complete with a checkered tablecloth and picnic benches. Traditionally cooked low and slow for several hours, that’s more work than a lot of us are prepared for—especially on a hectic weeknight.

Our quick(er) and easy version uses canned beans instead of dried, thus avoiding the hassle of soaking and simmering. Bacon is included for smokiness, and the sugary molasses-based sauce is replaced with a heavenly marriage of our Classic BBQ Sauce and Steak Sauce that adds tangy sweetness without corn syrup, cane sugar, or molasses. Ideally cooked in cast iron over a hot grill, this scrumptious recipe is perfect for weekend cookouts, backyard BBQs, potlucks, or the occasional “hot dog night” with the kids.
