Sweet, cold, refreshing—milkshakes are childhood treats we may recall sipping on sultry summer evenings before chasing fireflies, frosty indulgences we may enjoy occasionally, or an icy beverage that can help numb an inflamed sore throat. Typically made with ice cream, milk, fruit or chocolate (or whatever the desired flavoring), and sometimes dolloped with sweetened whipped cream, milkshakes are easy-to-make desserts that everyone loves. We make our milkshakes with only four ingredients that don't include milk or ice cream.
Our four-ingredient milkshakes get creaminess from two types of coconut milk, frothiness and volume from whipping air into our whey protein powder, flavor from cocoa powder or vanilla extract, and iciness from blended ice. You can add extra vanilla flavor to the vanilla milkshake by adding the seeds from a split vanilla pod to the blender, and extra cocoa flavor to the chocolate milkshake by adding a handful of chocolate chips after the other ingredients have been blended. Pulse the blender to crush the chocolate chips, but don't completely pulverize them so you can enjoy the slow melt of tiny bits of chocolate chips thawing on your tongue as you sip.
4-Ingredient Milkshake Recipes
To make a 4-Ingredient Chocolate Milkshake
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk
- 2 Tbsp. unsweetened canned coconut milk (full-fat)
- 1 scoop Primal Kitchen Primal Fuel Chocolate Coconut
- 3–5 ice cubes
- 1 Tbsp. dark chocolate chips (75–80% cacao), if desired
Instructions
- Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until well combined.
- If using chocolate chips, add them to the blender and pulse until the chips are broken into smaller pieces (but not fully incorporated).
- Serve with a dollop of whipped cream (dairy or coconut), if desired.
To make a 4-Ingredient Vanilla Milkshake
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk
- 2 Tbsp. unsweetened canned coconut milk (full-fat)
- 1 scoop Primal Kitchen Primal Fuel Vanilla Coconut
- 3–5 ice cubes
Instructions
- Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until well combined.
- Serve with a dollop of whipped cream (dairy or coconut), if desired.
