Laced delicately with Asian spices like cinnamon, star anise, and cardamom, sweetened with honey or sugar, made creamy and substantial with milk, and caffeinated with black tea leaves, chai tea latte has cemented its place at coffee houses across North America as a comforting, craveable alternative to coffee drinks.
What Is Chai Tea?
Chai is the Indian word for tea, traditionally black tea made with aromatics and warm milk, peddled throughout India by chai-wallahs, tea artisans who brew chai daily from a combination of tea leaves, ginger root and spices such as cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and black pepper. The tea available from chai-wallahs tends to be more mellow than the often heavily spiced, cloying version of chai tea latte ubiquitous in North American coffee houses and coffee shop chains. Masala chai (masala means spices) may be closer to the heady, thickly spiced and honeyed version Westerners know and crave.
Our keto-friendly version of chai tea latte is closer to the Indian version of chai. The spices won’t assault your senses like the strike of a gong, and the subtle sweetness rounds out the flavors rather than cloaking your tongue and nearly melting your teeth with an aggressive amount of syrup. Rather than curating and crushing your own cardamom pods and star anise, we use our Keto Chai Tea Latte Collagen Peptide Drink Mix to make it dead-simple to craft a chai tea latte in minutes in your kitchen.
2 Minute Keto Chai Tea Latte with Collagen
Time: 2 minutes
Servings: 2
Ingredients
- 4 scoops Primal Kitchen Chai Tea Collagen Keto Latte Drink Mix
- 2 cups unsweetened almond or coconut milk (16 ounces)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, warm the milk until it starts to bubble a bit on the sides. Stir milk and allow to simmer (you don’t need a roiling boil here, just a few small and gentle bubbles) for about 1 minute.
- Pour warm milk into a blender. Add Chai Tea drink mix, and blend on high speed until well combined and a little frothy (about 20 seconds).
- Be careful to place the lid of the blender on tightly. You may also want to hold a kitchen towel on top of the top while you blend to avoid any hot liquid splashing out.
- Pour into two mugs and serve.
